PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen)

The prostate gland is an important part of the male reproductive system and lies in front of the rectum and just below the bladder. It is about the size of a walnut and produces the liquid part of semen that transports sperm. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the prostate gland that is measurable in the blood through laboratory analysis. An excess amount of PSA could be an indication of a serious health problem and should be further evaluated by a physician.
Once past age 50, most men eventually experience some degree of prostate problem, usually coming in the form of one or more urinary symptoms.
